As Senior International Law Advisor to the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), he has pioneered new thinking on the relationship between international investment treaties and sustainable development; and set a major precedent by representing IISD in the first international investment arbitration to allow interventions by civil society organizations (the NAFTA case of Methanex Corp. v. United States). Over his career, Howard Mann has advised more than 70 governments on international investment law issues. His work is anchored by a commitment to achieving strong results that make a difference in the long-term. He has published extensively and is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world.
